The USS Midway’s Aircraft Collection brings to life nearly half a century of American naval aviation and the remarkable evolution of aircraft that operated from carriers like the Midway. Displayed throughout the flight and hangar decks are restored fighters, attack aircraft, bombers, trainers, helicopters, and other specialized aircraft representing eras from World War II through the Cold War, Vietnam War, and Operation Desert Storm. Visitors can see legendary aircraft such as the F4U Corsair, F4F Wildcat, F-4 Phantom II, F-14 Tomcat, A-6 Intruder, and numerous helicopters and support aircraft, many displayed with their wings folded or configured as they would have appeared aboard a working carrier. Together, the collection illustrates the tremendous advances in speed, technology, weapons, and aviation capabilities that occurred during the Midway’s years of service, while honoring the pilots, aircrews, mechanics, and flight deck crews who made carrier aviation possible.
