Founder’s Lawn is home to one of America's earliest—and widely celebrated as the nation's first—outdoor electrically illuminated Christmas trees. In 1904, the hotel's towering Norfolk Island pine was adorned with hundreds of electric lights, creating a dazzling holiday display that captivated guests during an era when electric lighting was still a remarkable new technology.

The Crown Room is the grand centerpiece of the Hotel del Coronado and one of America's most magnificent historic ballrooms. The ballroom has hosted presidents, royalty, celebrities, weddings, and countless memorable celebrations throughout its history. Opened in 1888, it is renowned for its soaring Oregon sugar pine ceiling, remarkable craftsmanship, and crown chandeliers designed by Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum, who was a frequent guest at the Hotel del Coronado in the early 1900s. Inspired by the hotel's architecture and surroundings, Baum is believed to have found creative inspiration here while writing several of his beloved Oz books.
